Native Americans

For the past few years many Americans who were born here think they own this land (The United States) but in reality the Native Americans were the first ones to arrive to the U.S. They settle here first and it’s embarrassing to our history how people treated them. The Native Americans came from the North West. The Spanish were the first one to arrive here in the United States when Columbus accidently landed here while searching for a route to Asia.  Columbus then took the Native Americans as slaves.
Native Americans lived in teepees. Teepees take a shape of pyramid. First there are three main poles (sticks). The four poles (sticks) are attached on each side. At the top there is a small flap to let smoke come out and finally the three corners are hammered down but not the side so air can seek in. Teepees were made out of buffalo skins and other skin as well. They also spoke their own language but some speak in American English. However there are many more languages that Native American spoke even today. One problem we have today is that Native American language is endanger what I mean by that is that some communities are bilingual, but in most places parents have stopped teaching children their native language . If children stop learning their native language, the languages can die out just like endangered species. One tool Native Americans use where arrowheads to hunt small animals. They hunted animals for several reasons one was for food and another for clothing such as fur.
A gender role in the tribe was very interesting the male hunted on winter while the females were in charge of the food. If the father and mother were divorced, the man was kicked out and owned nothing while the woman stayed with everything. If they had children, then the child would stay with the mother and would be less traumatizing. There was no domestic violence. One important thing about Native Americans children, was gimblocks what it means is that there was one child that received presents and was like the leader he had the right to do mostly whatever he wanted.
Now days, Native Americans don’t pay taxes because since they settle here first they don’t need to. They also own casinos and richer places. If you were to look for a Native American today you will most likely find one in the mountains due to the fact that they like living in the mountains probably because they like living in the cold and hunt animals.  However most still live in North America, in what are now Canada and the United States. Some Indians live in cities and towns with Americans and Canadians of other races, while others live on reservations or reserves which are special villages and lands which are under Indian jurisdiction, and therefore have some different laws than the rest of the state or province.
I think what the government did to the Native Americans was not the good thing to do taking away their land when they settled here first. I learned a lot from the USC student’s things that are now helpful and will be later on when I go to college. I really enjoyed talking with them and learning things that there learning today. I wish them the best and I hope they achieve their dream.

What is an America

An American according to the dictionary is a Native or inhabitant of North or Central American or South America country. Trying to figure out who is an America can be hard at times. An America is someone who lives in North America. Anyone that lives in North America is considered an America. No matter where you come from or what's your background or race you're considered American. If you come from a different country such as Central America or any part of the world and come to America you're an American. You may ask yourself why, the reason is because those who emigrate from their countries come to America for better living and they come here to work and thanks to them this country is getting and it's been a richer country. Without those who work hard citizens wouldn't have from where to eat. It's a state that expresses liberty and freedom and anyone can be an American. I come fron a different country and I am considered an American. People migth say that I 'am not one because I wasen't born here but that don't matter because you don't have to be born here to be an American. I came from Central America and since I come from there, I'm considered an American even the word Cental "America" is included in the continent from where I come from.

During the mid-1700, many people left Europe for a better life in North America. Some of them came to escape crowded cities, to own their own land, and to have a better living. Other came in search of religious freedom due to the fact that in their country there wasn't as much freedom as in North America. They thougth that the new life they would conquer would have less goverment interference and would have the chance to have a greater  voice in goverment. This means that they came to America for a better future and even though they come from other place their still Americans.

However, An American Citizens is way different from an American. The difference is that an American Citizen is a person who is born in the United States. An American Citizen has the privilege to travel outside the United States and they can work legally in this country without worrying about getting deported or getting arrested just because you don't have papers. An American is a person who only lives in the United State but doesn't have the same privilege as an American Citizen. It is very hard and difficult to become an American Citizen. The reason is because you need to pass through a long process and will take years so you can become permanently an American Citizen.

Most people think that Americans are those who were born here but in reality the real Americans are those who leave here but it dosen't matter because America is a free country and the Declaration of independence states it. Since it states it's a free country thren i guess we have the rigth to call ourselves Americans.

Academic Autobiography

Hi my name is Darwin Carranza I came to the United States when I was 5 years old. I attended Magnolia Elemantary School located on Orchard and Venice. I began kindergarten because I didn't know anything. I didn't know how to write my name due to the fact that I had come from a different country. Years passed by and on 4th grade I was choose to be in the gifted/talented program. In this program I had to stay afterschool. I learned stuff about science stuff that later on what I  had learned was useful and easier for me. My parents were very happy that I was in this program because all my teacher had told them that I was a smart person. I felt proud of myself. After I graduated from Elementary I attended Berendo Middle School.

All the way through Middle School, teachers had told me to keep up my good work that I was very smart student. Afters 6th grade math had been my favorite subject because I really liked math back then  and it was way easier.  It wasen't till I arrive 8th grade where my math teacher wanted tp get rid of the honors class he wanted to make the class a regular class because some students were to lazy to do their work. My history teacher told me what he was doing was wrong. This nightmare was getting worse everyday. I stood up for the class and wrote a letter to the principal saying that we wanted to keep the honors class the way it was because we had been working very hard and just because lazy people didn't want to do their work it wasn't fair thbat everyonee had to suffer. My math teacher told me that what I was doing was a joke. Unfortunately he ate his words and the honors math class was not vanished. I was awarded with a medal for the effort I had put in and I achieve what my friends and I wanted. I felt pround of myself because I was the leader of all this. In 2008 I graduated from Berendo Middle School it was 3 years of stressful work but everything payed off.

After I graduated from Middle School Now I'm attending West Adams Preparatory High School. In 9th grade I had very nice teacher like Mrs. Yang for biology, Ms. Rodarte for geometry and Ms. Pettus for english. In 10th grade I had a mean teacher for P.E Mr. Tupivao but if you did his work he was cool. I thank my parents, family and my friend for cherring me up and telling me to keep up the good work but I'm more grateful with god because he was given me the strength to keep going. In my 2 years of being in high school I've only gotten a C the rest have been A's and B's. So far I feel very proud because even though I come from a poor country I want to be the firs one to graduate from high school and make my parents proud and help them out when I start working. They work very hard so I can have everything I need and I need to thank them by doing well and having a career where money won't be a problem and I hope I keep up my good work and soon help my parents.
